Happy Birthday starring Rene Liu & Louis Koo

Just watched this love story after reading a synopsis of the film in The Star. As stated in the review, I was expecting it to be a simple love story. Having watched the film, I’m not quite sure whether you can call it simple. It’s a combination of both a simple, straightforward love between a simple girl (Xiao Mi) with a quite popular guy (Xiao Nam). Yet, it is a difficult love because despite loving Xiao Nam deeply, Xiao Mi has difficulty accepting a guy into her life due to her childhood experience.

It is a slow movie here. A lot of great acting skills are required of the two actor and actress. I would say, as I was watching the movie, I can feel the deep true love between a pair of lovers even if there are not much conversations involved. It touched my heart several times throughout the film.

Go for it, if you are into a love story. Mind you however, I kinda predicted the ending, as the story line somewhat resembles the kinda story you can read from a forwarded email. If you don’t know what I mean, you should watch the movie then. Enjoy!

P.S One thing I don't like about the movie is Rene Liu did not use her own voice (probably she's not good at Cantonese)!! I secretly guess the substituted voice belongs to that of an actress working for the Hong Kong TVB.
